This survey was done between January 5 and February 5. It has received more than 56,000 responses from people in 342 districts. The number of answers was different for each of the survey questions. Of the mobile subscribers surveyed, 66 percent reported receiving three or more spam calls per day. Of these, 96 per cent of the subscribers said that they get at least one such call per day.
92 per cent users answered yes to the question about receiving spam calls after registering for ‘Do Not Disturb’ list. About 78 percent of mobile users said that the most spam calls they received were from the financial services and real estate sectors. When asked about the source of spam calls, nearly 50 per cent users reported that they received calls from various mobile numbers and these numbers appeared to be personal, while 29 per cent said that these numbers appeared to be from companies or brands. Apart from this, about 14 percent of the users said that they think that these spam calls are made from a centralized landline number.
The survey report states that information received from people associated with financial services, real estate and other service industries shows that the sales and marketing divisions of such firms hire third party agencies for such calls. The staff of these agencies also make such calls from their personal mobile numbers. The Telecom Department has also taken some measures regarding spam calls. Despite this the problem persists.
