Airtel Wi-Fi Calling availability, compatible phones
The Airtel Wi-Fi calling feature is currently available for Airtel customers in Delhi-NCR and works with Airtel Xstream Fiber home broadband. However, Airtel has said that it is working to add support across all broadband service providers and hotspots. Apart from this, support for this is also being brought in all handsets.
The Airtel Wi-Fi calling feature will be available on all smartphones that come with Wi-Fi calling feature. But right now it only works with select phones:
- Apple: iPhone XR, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro
- OnePlus: OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro
- Samsung: Samsung Galaxy J6, Samsung Galaxy On 6, Samsung Galaxy M30s, Samsung Galaxy A10s
- Xiaomi: Poco F2, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro
Users need to enable the Wi-Fi calling feature on their phones and upgrade to the latest software build to use Airtel Wi-Fi calling. Apart from this, users are suggested to keep VoLTE ON for the best results. As far as the data consumption is concerned, a 5 minute Wi-Fi call will consume 5 MB of data. If the Wi-Fi network disappears, the Wi-Fi call will automatically switch to VoLTE.
Regarding the benefits of Airtel Wi-Fi Calling, this telecom company has told that users do not need to buy a separate SIM. They will be able to make calls or send messages from anywhere with a Wi-Fi network. Apart from this, the Wi-Fi based calling service is claimed to provide better call set-up time and audio quality. Apart from this, users will not need to buy a separate plan for Airtel Wi-Fi calling service, nor will they have to pay any additional charges. Wi-Fi calls will get the status of any normal call.
Apart from this, the receiver will not need to enable Wi-Fi calling in his phone for this call. There is no additional requirement regarding the network as well. Airtel Wi-Fi calls can be made on any other network. The only difference is the unique symbol. During Wi-Fi calling, the Wi-Fi call icon will appear on the call screen. Airtel customers will be able to make Wi-Fi calls even in roaming. But international calling is not possible.
