“After Delhi-NCR, Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”) has launched its Voice over Wi-Fi service in Mumbai, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Airtel said in a statement.
Airtel does not charge anything extra for its Wi-Fi calling service. Users do not need to buy a separate SIM. They will be able to make calls or send messages from anywhere with a Wi-Fi network. It is worth noting that Airtel Wi-Fi Calling currently works only on the Airtel Xstream Fiber Home brand. But the company is working on bringing support with other broadband services. Meanwhile, several Airtel subscribers on Twitter have claimed that they are able to enjoy Wi-Fi calling even on third party broadband connections.
Users need to enable the Wi-Fi calling feature on their phones and upgrade to the latest software build to use Airtel Wi-Fi calling. Apart from this, users are suggested to keep VoLTE ON for the best results. As far as the data consumption is concerned, a 5 minute Wi-Fi call will consume 5 MB of data. If the Wi-Fi network disappears, the Wi-Fi call will automatically switch to VoLTE.
Airtel subscribers can now take advantage of Airtel Wi-Fi calling service on their Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy S10+, Samsung Galaxy S10e and Samsung Galaxy M20 handsets. The service has also become available for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.
