Apple launches iMac 24-inch, Apple TV 4K also improved, know price and all features

Apple unveiled the all-new iMac at its Spring Loaded event on Tuesday, April 20, which featured its custom-designed ARM chip. As always, this time too Apple’s new upgrade, this 24-inch iMac is thinner, faster and cooler running device than the first generation. Along with this, the company also launched Apple TV with new improvements, which is a 4K streaming device. It will have the Apple A12 Bionic SoC, which you get to see in Apple’s latest iPhone 12 generation handsets. Preorders for both the new iMac and the new Apple TV 4K will begin at the end of the month and will go on sale next month.

All-New 24-inch iMac, Apple TV 4K refresh price and availability

The new iMac is powered by the Apple M1 SoC and starts at $1,299 in the US, which roughly translates to Rs 97,900. It can be preordered from 30th April. This price of the device is for its 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU, 256GB storage, Magic Keyboard model. On the other hand, its price in India starts from ₹ 1,19,900 and goes up to ₹ 1,39,000 which includes 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 256GB storage model. Whereas the higher end devices, which include 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 512GB storage model, start at Rs 1,59,000. These devices also come with Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. In the US, the top-end models are priced at $1,499 (approximately Rs 1,13,00) and $1,699 (approximately Rs 1,28,100). The company said that the new M1-based iMac device will go on sale from the third week of May.

Talking about Apple TV 4K, it comes with A12 Bionic SoC and its 32GB storage model is priced at $179 (approximately Rs 13,500). While the 64GB storage model costs $199 (approximately Rs 15,000) in India, the price starts at Rs 18,900 and goes up to Rs 20,900. This too can be pre-ordered from April 30 and will be available in around 30 countries. The new Siri Remote is priced at Rs 5,800 and works with older Apple TV devices as well. AppleCare+ will also be available for the first time for Apple TV 4K, which costs Rs 2,900.

All new 24-inch iMac with M1 SoC features, specifications

The M1 based iMac has a new design. Its distraction free muted color attracts a lot and it is brighter at the back. Its base model is available in four color options – Blue, Green, Red and Silver. At the same time, its two high-end models are available in Yellow, Orange and Purple colors. The iMac sports a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (4480×2520 pixels), Apple’s True Tone color balance, P3 wide color gamut, 500 nits brightness and low reflectivity coating. The company says that its 24-inch display fits in a slightly larger frame than the earlier 21.5-inch model. This (AIO) PC from Apple is more compact and just as thin as 11.5mm.

Apple says that its M1 chip and its ARM-based design is what reduces the size of the chip logic board in the system and the smaller thermal system the device needs. The all-new iMac also comes with a 1080p webcam that uses the M1’s Neural Engine to recognize faces and provide better exposure and color balance. Apart from this, it also gets a studio quality 3-mic array with beamforming tech. There is also a Dolby Atmos certified 6 speaker system with force canceling woofers and high performance tweeters.

It has options for connectivity. New iMac users can choose from four USB Type-C ports. Two of these can be Thunderbolt. AIO supports 6K display. This time around, a new magnetic power connector has also been given in it. It comes with a 2 meter woven color match cable and adapter. It connects to the Ethernet port to save space. Not only this, Apple has also launched three new Magic Keyboard. One of these is the color matching keyboard for Spotlight, Dictation, Do Not Disturb and Emoji. The second keyboard is of the same design but also has Wireless Touch ID. And finally, the third new model is of the same design but with a numpad. The new color matching versions of the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad have also been improved.

In terms of specifications, the 24-inch base model comes with 16GB of unified memory. It has 1TB of SSD storage, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth v5 and two Thunderbolt/ or USB 4 ports. On the other hand, its higher-end model has up to 2TB of SSD storage and three USB ports are provided separately.

Apple TV 4K with A12 Bionic features, specifications

Apple TV 4K has Apple’s A12 Bionic processor. It also supports high frame rate HDR content. Apple has said that it is in talks with content providers to provide international quality content. iPhone 12 Pro users can record 60 fps Dolby Vision HDR content from their phone itself.

At the same time, Apple has given a new feature this time in the name of Color Balance. This is for Apple TV 4K users, so that the color balance of the TV can be adjusted through the iPhone. In this, the iPhone has to be held in front of the TV at a specified spot and with the help of the light sensor present on the iPhone, the color output of the TV is balanced.

A new Siri Remote has also been launched with Apple TV 4K. It can be purchased separately. This remote also works with Apple’s previous generation TV Apple TV HD. The remote has a one-touch keypad, an outer ring that can read in circular motions to seek out video on the timeline. The remote has a power button that controls the TV set. The company says that it is made of 100% recycled aluminum.
