Today we will review the top-end Deluxe smartphone. This phone has 256 GB of storage and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. Zenfone Deluxe competes with a price tag of Rs 62,999 google pixel And Samsung Galaxy S7 from the series. Is the Zenfone 3 Deluxe a package that will live up to our expectations? Let’s know.
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe (ZS570KL) Design and Build
The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe attracts many things upon first sight but the antenna design that caught our attention. This is an achievement for a unibody metal smartphone. Because in other expensive flagships like the iPhone 7 and Pixel, the antenna bands are clearly visible on the rear. Asus seems to have found a way to hide the antenna band in the smartphone without compromising on the signal quality. You can still see the radio-friendly material on the chamfered bezel of the phone but these are rarely visible.
The curved edges of the phone and the slightly curved rear make it easy to use with one hand. The phone feels very light and the matte finish leaves fingerprints on the rear. Asus’s trademark ‘spun metal’ design has been given on the top and bottom on the front.
Asus has given a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display in this phone, which has been given full HD resolution display. The density of the screen is 386 pp. But we think a quad HD display would have been better for a phone with this capability. However, we really liked the thin bezels of the phone and it is slightly wider than the Google Pixel XL. The colors are well saturated and the brightness level of the screen is also very good. You have many options to change the color and you can also set the color temperature by going to the Settings app.
The phone has a USB Type-C port and a speaker grille at the bottom. While a 3.5mm headphone jack has been given on the top. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe has a hybrid SIM slot with 4G support. On the rear, the camera protrudes slightly and there is a square fingerprint sensor cut-out. Talk about the fingerprint sensor, then this sensor works very well but if you have not put the finger properly then it does not work due to the strange shape.
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe comes with a Quick Charge 3.0 capable power adapter, Type-C cable, ZenEar S headset, SIM ejector tool and warranty card. The packing of the phone is premium and the quality of the accessories that come with it is also very good. Overall, the Deluxe is a stylish phone that is extremely well built. The special thing is that the phone of this size is so light. The only complaint we have is the size of the fingerprint of the phone.
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe (Z5S570KL) Specs & Features
Asus has given 256 GB of storage in the ZS570KL variant. It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 6 GB RAM. At the same time, the ZS570KL with 64GB variant has the old Snapdragon 820 chipset. But all the other specifications are same in both the variants. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, USB OTG and FM radio. As of now, VoLTE support is not available so you will not be able to make voice calls from Jio network. However, Asus says that this problem will be fixed in the coming update.
The phone got good figures in the benchmarking test, although the OnePlus 3T did much better in almost every test.
Talking about the software, this phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, on which ZenUI 3.0 skin has been given. zenfone 3 ultra in software and zenfone 3 max ,review) as soon as changes have been made. As we have said every time, the ZenUI doesn’t seem very clear and it might be a bit difficult for the first time users of an Asus phone. Though the UI can be customized but we find it useless. The phone comes pre-installed with apps like Puffin, Truecaller, Amazon Kindle, SimCity and Need for Speed: No Limits. There are many Asus apps in this phone like PhotoCollage, MiniMovie, ZenCircle etc. which cannot be installed from the phone.
There are some additional features in the Settings app like Optiflex, which can increase the launch performance of up to 10 apps. However, we did not see any significant difference with this feature enabled. You can set up touch and motion gestures with ZenMotion. Apart from this, you can also set a quick toggle for one-handed mode by double tapping the home button. The Deluxe also comes with an ‘Always on Display’ feature that lets you lock the analog or digital clock as a screensaver. You can see information about missed calls, messages, battery status and date from the panel. However, it is not like the always-on panel on the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe (ZS570KL) Performance
The experience is similar to the other high end variants with Snapdragon 821 processor. The performance of the phone is very good for everyday work. We did not like the stock ZenUI keyboard very much due to the delay in typing. The phone gets hot after using the camera for a long time but not to such an extent that the phone cannot be used.
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe offers a great experience for all kinds of multimedia. All Full HD and 4K video files play without any problems. Due to the great display, a fun movie watching experience is available. The audio quality is particularly good. The phone has only one speaker but the sound it delivers is much better than your average smartphone. The audio setting can be changed from Asus’s AudioWizard app.
The Deluxe smartphone supports high-resolution audio through headphones as well, and the accompanying ZenEar S headset offers decent audio quality.
The Zenfone 3 Deluxe sports a 23-megapixel rear sensor with four-axis OIS and electronic stabilization. Apart from this, laser autofocus has also been given to lock the subject fast. The camera works well in daylight as well as in low light and we did not face any problem. Autofocus means that if you change the frame, the device changes focus between the subjects. The quality of pictures is very good in daylight and due to this, both landscape and macro shots come with a lot of detailing. The ‘Auto HDR’ feature didn’t work very well when we used it and we had to go into HDR mode manually for most of the time.
There are several shooting modes in the camera app. These include Super Resolution, Manual and Panorama. Photography is very good in low light and along with good detailing, noise is also controlled. However, this quality is not like the Pixel XL and Galaxy S7 but it is very close to it. Indoor lighting from the front camera gives very good and detailed selfies. 4K video recording can be done at 30 frames per second. But you will also have the option of 1080 pixels 60 frames per second and slow-motion. The quality of the recorded video is quite good and the frame is also stable.
3400 mAh battery has been given in this phone, which lasts for one and a half days during normal use. In our HD video loop test in ‘Normal’ mode, the phone’s battery lasted for 12 hours and 33 minutes. Switching to ‘Performance’ mode, the battery lasted only for 8 hours and 13 minutes. In this mode, we didn’t see much improvement in the app, nor did we reveal any benefits in benchmarks. The phone supports Quick Charge 3.0 and we were able to charge the battery up to 65 percent in just 30 minutes.
The special edition of Zenfone 3 Deluxe is priced at Rs 62,999 and can be considered a good flagship for the price. Apart from this, it is the only smartphone to come with so much storage (expandable support also). Streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video come with offline viewing support.
Zenfone 3 Deluxe is a very good flagship smartphone. We think Asus could have done better on Android customization. Apart from this, the fingerprint design could have been improved further. We feel that a quad-HD display could have been a better option for a phone with such a high price tag.
If you are looking for a good camera phone, then we suggest you go for the better Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy S7 series than this phone from Asus. But if you are looking for an all-rounder phone without spending a lot of money, then the OnePlus 3T is for you.
