Cool 1 Dual will be available in India for Rs 13,999. It will be available on online as well as offline platform. The online version will come with 4 GB RAM. At the same time, a variant with 3 GB RAM will be available in the offline store. Rest of the specifications of both the variants will be same. The phone will clash with Moto G4 Plus (Review) and Xiaomi Mi Max (Review). Will the Cool 1 Dual be liked by the users? Let’s find out…
Coolpad Cool 1 Dual Design and Build
There is nothing new in the design and it doesn’t impress too much, but the build quality is trustworthy. The metal body gives a strong feel and the matte finish does not leave fingerprint marks. The quality and position of the buttons are also good. The Cool 1 Dual is a bit heavy and also a bit thick due to the big battery.
5.5-inch IPS display comes with full-HD resolution. Its bezel is not very thin. It is located on all four sides of the display and is also quite wide. The viewing angles of the panel are good. Color reproduction and brightness levels are also appropriate. It is not easy to read on the screen at times in direct sunlight. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to protect it from scratch marks.
Backlit capacitive buttons are at the bottom of the navigation. The notification LED is on the top. On the left is the dual nano SIM tray. Sadly, the microSD card slot is not provided in the handset. If the inbuilt storage of the Cool 1 Dual was 64 GB, then there was no problem. But 32 GB a day will start taking less.
The Cool 1 Dual has an infrared emitter on top. Next to it is a 3.5mm audio socket. The USB Type-C port in the phone is at the bottom. Also present is the speaker grille. Fingerprint sensor is also given on the back side. This is a good feature for the security of the phone. Its structure and position are such that you will not face any problem in using it. Cool 1 Dual is another phone to come with dual cameras in its price segment. Earlier Lenovo Fab 2 Plus (Review) was launched.
In the retail box you will find screen guard, data cable, 10W power adapter, SIM ejector and instruction manual. The Cool 1 Dual has a nice build and gives a strong feel. If only! It would have a microSD card slot or a hybrid SIM slot only.
Coolpad Cool 1 Dual Specs and Features
Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset has been used in Cool 1 Dual. This is a faster version of the processor used in the Redmi Note 3. We got 4 GB RAM variants for review. Other specifications include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, USB-OTG, FM radio and GPS. The phone supports 4G LTE in both the SIM slots. And by going to the settings, you can activate the Voice over LTE feature. We could not make voice calls on Jio network from the review unit. But there was no problem with the data.
When you run the software, you will be familiar with the workmanship of LeEco. In Cool 1 Dual, instead of Cool UI, the EUI has been used. We have already encountered this user interface in old LeEco phones. The two OSes are exactly the same, but LeEco’s superentertainment streaming services are not.
If you haven’t used a LeEco phone before, it will take some time to get used to the EUI. Because its layout is quite different from Android. Functions and customization are the same as before. You will find some useful apps pre-installed.
coolpad cool 1 dual performance
The Cool 1 Dual handles multitasking and general performance with ease. The phone never slowed down while launching apps and playing games, thanks to the fast octa-core chipset and decent RAM. Games with powerful graphics like Asphalt 8 run smoothly. The benchmark results of the handset were also good. You will not complain about the phone overheating. The phone definitely got hot while charging the phone and running powerful apps.
Media playback is also good. The chipset handles 4K videos with ease. There is a speaker at the bottom of the phone. Satisfying sound comes from the speaker for media and alerts. You can get better sound out of headphones. The stock music player has a good design.
Two 13-megapixel rear cameras have been given in Cool 1 Dual. One of these is a color sensor and the other is used for monochrome data. When used together, you can expect better image quality and less noise in low light conditions. But during use, this pair of cameras did not give the expected results every time. There were noises in low light photos. Usually the details were also very less. Colors got better when Night Mode was switched on, but not by much. In daylight, we complained about excessive exposure in landscape and close-up shots at times. The colors came out well, but the subjects were not sharp.
You will be able to record videos in 4K resolution. The footage came out well in daylight. But low-light videos were a little grainy. The secondary camera of 8 megapixels is sufficient for selfies. However, this will require suitable lighting.
The camera focuses fast and images are also stored fast. The camera app is easy to use. You will have many options to choose from.
The Cool 1 Dual did not disappoint in terms of battery life. The 4000mAh battery lasted for 14 hours 43 minutes in our HD video loop test. The battery lasted for about one and a half days in normal use. The phone charges fast.
Coolpad Cool 1 Dual delivers decent performance for its price. Its build is good and the display is also sharp. Battery life is excellent and there is enough power for a wide variety of tasks. The microSD card slot is lacking. If you have to shop, then do it online then you will get more RAM for the same price.
