The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has Advisory Has been issued in which instructions have been given to make radio mandatory in the phone. Radio is considered to be one of the oldest and most effective means of communication. In case of any natural disaster or emergency, information can be issued through radio, alerts can be sent and contact can be maintained with the general public. Apart from this, radio is also very popular as a means of information and entertainment. The aim of the government behind making radio compulsorily available is also to provide radio service to remote rural areas.
With FM radio being present in every smartphone, radio services will be accessible even to those who do not have the resources to buy and use a separate radio set. Apart from this, the government can maintain contact with all the citizens of the country even in difficult situations through radio services. It has been said by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology that if the radio feature is already present in the smartphone, then it should not be disabled. And if it is not already present in the smartphone, then it should be included.
Radio FM application is present in most of the smartphones, but it is disabled by the manufacturer. Apple is also one of those companies that does not provide FM radio in its smartphones. The Government of India has issued instructions to the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAID) that FM radio should be readily available on smartphones.
