Honor 10 Lite Design
As soon as you look at the glossy back panel of the device, you will know that it is a phone from Honor. Honor is known for giving such a finish to its devices. We have reviewed the Sapphire Blue finish variant. Sky Blue and Midnight Black variants have also been launched in the market. The reviewed variants gave us Honor 8X ,review) And Honor 9N ,review) reminded.
The problem is that the marks of spots on the back side also fall easily. With this phone of Honor, a transparent case also comes in the retail box, which will prove to be helpful. Honor 10 Lite is the first phone from the company to come with Dewdrop Notch. A very small notch is in the middle at the top of the display. It only has space for the selfie camera. To make the notch smaller, Honor has shifted the earpiece towards the frame of the smartphone. The notification light is gone on the lower bezel, which you can guess when it blinks.
The aspect ratio of 6.21 inch screen is 19.5: 9. It is equipped with full-HD + resolution. Honor claims that due to the chip on film screen technology, it has been able to make the bottom bezel extremely thin. The back of the phone along with the frame is made of plastic and doesn’t feel premium anywhere. Probably for this reason the company has been able to keep the price and weight of the handset down.
Honor has given power and volume buttons on the right side. The power button is easy to reach. But there may be some problem in reaching the volume buttons. The left edge of the phone is completely blank. The SIM tray is on top, along with a secondary microphone. At the bottom, there is a Micro-USB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, primary mic and bottom-firing loudspeaker. This phone of Honor comes with a 10W charger. Honor 10 Lite has a dual rear camera setup. Honor 10 Lite performance, battery life and cameras
Kirin 710 processor handles day-to-day tasks very smoothly. Our user experience was very smooth with the 4 GB RAM variant given for review. There was no complaint of slowing down of the phone even during multitasking.
During use, we found that the fingerprint was a bit slow in unlocking the phone. It also has Face Unlock which uses the selfie camera. Face recognition was faster and it was able to unlock the phone in most circumstances.
In our benchmark tests, the Kirin 710 outperformed the Snapdragon 660 in CPU benchmarks, but fell behind in GPU tests.
The PUBG Mobile game on Honor 10 Lite ran on the medium setting. We found that after playing this game for about 36 minutes, the battery decreased by 11 percent.
The Honor 10 Lite’s 3400mAh battery lasted 11 hours and 20 minutes in our HD video loop test. In normal usage, we were active on WhatsApp, played games for about an hour, used Google Maps for 50 minutes and also watched some YouTube videos, after 24 hours about 46 percent battery was left. Honor does not provide any fast charger in the retail box. The 10-watt charger provided with it charges the phone slowly.
The Honor 10 Lite has a dual camera setup at the back. The primary sensor is 13 megapixels and there is a depth sensor of 2 megapixels along with it. For selfie you will get 24 megapixel camera. The camera software is similar to other Honor smartphones. The company says that both the camera setups are equipped with AI.
Apart from the usual photo and video modes, modes like Aperture, Night, Portrait, Panorama, Pro and Time-lapse will be available. HDR is available as a separate mode and not with quick toggle. The HiVision feature that was part of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is also available. But its features are limited.
Honor 10 Lite focuses fast and also gets scene recognition right. The smartphone performs accurate detection when AI mode is enabled. In this mode the output is highly saturated. The sky looks more blue and the grass more green on the phone’s display, but they look artificial.
Photos taken without AI turned out to be better on some occasions, especially in macro shots. In landscape shots, the Honor 10 Lite was not able to capture the details of distant objects. Macros shots without AI mode came out better than shots with AI mode. The Honor 10 Lite did a decent separation between the subject and the background.
Honor 10 Lite did not give great output in portrait mode. Edge detection was not accurate. On some occasions, the phone did not even completely blur the background. Performance in low light was below average. If AI is enabled, the night mode of the phone is activated automatically so that the shutter remains open for a long time. For this reason, if the subject moves while taking the shot, the shots are blurred. There was no noise in pictures taken at night, but the output was grainy and lacked in detail.
The beautification mode is already active in the selfie camera, due to which the pictures come smooth. If you want, you can switch it off or you can set the level of beautification. It also has a Bokeh mode that lets you blur the background.
You will be able to record videos of maximum 1080 pixels with the primary and selfie cameras. You have the option to record video with the rear camera at 60 frames per second. But the output is shakey due to lack of image stabilization.
Honor 10 Lite is another claimant of Honor in the price segment of Rs 15,000. Talking about the different identity, the 10 Lite comes with a glossy finish. This is Honor’s first phone to come with Dewdrop Notch and Android Pie out of the box.
Kirin 710 is a very powerful processor which gives a strong challenge to the popular Snapdragon 660 processor in this segment. But in the case of camera, the claim of Honor 10 Lite becomes a bit weak. to this phone Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 ,review, Realme U1 ,review) And Xiaomi Mi A2 ,review) will face a stronger challenge. Its 4 GB / 64 GB variant available for Rs 13,999 can be considered, but the 6 GB / 64 GB variant of Rs 17,999 does not have that appeal.
