design and texture
On the other hand, HTC One X9 looks a lot like the company’s Desire series smartphone. The rear of the One X9 is made entirely of metal, which makes it look attractive and from this it is also clear that an effort has been made to give a premium look to the handset.
Glass has been used in the front of the phone, due to which the edges of the phone are rounded. The phone has three backlit capacitive buttons for Back, Home and Recent below the display. The HTC branding is placed above the display. There is a front camera on one side above the display. HTC has confirmed that the front has Corning Gorilla Glass. There is a dual speaker grille on the top and bottom of the phone, which makes the phone look even better.
There are antenna bands at the top and bottom on the rear panel of the phone while the camera and dual LED flash are placed in the top left corner. There is an HTC branding in the middle on the rear of the phone as well.
On the right side of the phone, there is a SIM card slot along with the power and volume buttons. Whereas a second SIM card and a microSD card can be placed on the left side. The One X9 sports a 3.5mm audio jack at the top and a micro-USB slot at the bottom.
HTC One X9 flaunts a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080×1920 pixels) Super LCD display. The density of the screen is 401 ppi. We found the screen quite bright and crisp while using the phone. We could use the phone easily even in daylight. Watching videos and playing games with dual HTC BoomSound speakers and Dolby Audio spurt enhancements is a great fun experience.
With a thickness of 7.99mm, the One X9 is slim for the screen. Its curved edges make it very convenient to hold the phone and use it with one hand. However, with 170 grams of weight, the phone feels a bit heavy to use and the phone tends to slip when the hands are sweaty. This phone will be available in Carbon Gray color and Opal Silver color. Overall, the HTC One X9 feels premium for the price and is extremely well designed.
Specifications and software
HTC One X9 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor and 3GB of RAM. The phone has 32 GB inbuilt storage which can be expanded up to 2 TB via microSD card. The phone has 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera. The One X9 comes with connectivity features like Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/c, GPS, GLONASS, Miracast and 4G LTE. This phone has 3000 mAh battery with quick charging support.
HTC One X9 runs on the company’s Sense UI which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This version of Sense UI is much lighter than the UI given in HTC smartphones launched till a year ago. It has less bloatware and HTC has focused on Google’s app suite like Search, Drive, Photos, Hangouts and Chrome. The quick setting toggle also gives a very similar feel to stock Android. There’s also a HTC Theme app for tweaking and downloading new themes, wallpapers and ringtones.
The phone has Zoe Video Editor to edit the recorded videos. The phone also featured Android Marshmallow features like Now on Tap and App Permissions. Overall, the HTC One X9 is easy to use with the new Sense UI.
The One X9 smartphone with Helio X10 processor is extremely convenient for multitasking. Games like Need for Speed: No Limits and Dead Trigger 2 can be played without any problems. The phone gets hot after playing games for a long time.
However, we have noticed several times that there is a delay in opening the app which is quite useless. We found during the review that the key bar apps tend to crash which is disappointing for a phone of this price range. In the phone, we were able to use 4G network without any problem and the call quality was also good.
The HTC One X9 gets crisp sound from the BoomSound speaker. The earphones that come with the phone are fine. The benchmark numbers for the OneX 9 were quite impressive. And it scored well in the benchmark test.
Talking about the camera, the One X9 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor, optical image stabilization (OIS), aperture F / 2.0 and dual tone LED flash. One of the biggest features of the camera is the ability to record 4K at 30 frames per second. There is a Pro mode in the camera app which can be controlled manually and images can be taken in RAW format. A selfie timer of up to 10 seconds has been given in this phone. Apart from this, it has HDR mode, Panorama mode (up to 270 degrees). There are also features like hyper lapse and slow motion video recording. Like other HTC phones, this phone also has a zoom button.
The camera gets focus quickly but there is a problem with the shutter. Photos taken in good light come with crisp and natural colors, but there was a slight awkwardness in them. Face detection function works well. The performance was poor in low light and we could see noise in all the pictures. The 5 megapixel front camera comes with decent selfies but it was not the best camera performance found in a smartphone coming in this price.
The HTC One X9’s battery lasted for 10 hours and 45 minutes in the video loop test, which isn’t bad. However, the battery performance is below average during normal use. The battery of the phone did not last even a day on a single charge.
We got 12 to 14 hours of battery life in the phone with a little use. We had to turn on the power saving mode as soon as the battery came down to 20 percent. During the use of apps like Google Maps, the phone’s battery drains rapidly. In such a situation, there is a lot of benefit from quick charging support. The One X9 takes about two hours to fully charge, which is not bad.
HTC One X9 was launched in India in May for Rs 25,990. But its sale started in July and currently this phone is available in the market for Rs 23,990. The metal body and good display performance of the phone is a great package. However, the camera and battery life disappoint. Overall say to have the same price Xiaomi Mi 5 And Le Max 2 Smartphones are more powerful phones than HTC One X9.
