At first glance, the Hot S3 doesn’t look like a phone under Rs 10,000. Made of high quality plastic, the handset comes with curved edges, which makes the phone easy to hold. A cover is also available with the phone, which will protect the back panel from fingerprints.
The front of the phone has a 5.65-inch display with 18: 9 aspect ratio, which gives the phone a tall and slim look. It takes a little effort to reach the edges of the phone. Like most smartphones of today, Infinix has given onscreen buttons in this handset. Above the display is a metal speaker grille, selfie camera and dual LED flash. Loudspeaker, Micro-USB port and microphone are given at the bottom of the phone. The headphone jack is on the top of the phone.
On the right side of the phone are the power and volume buttons. The SIM tray is on the left side of the handset. We reviewed the low-cost variant and more than 22 GB of storage was available for use in the phone. There is also a facility to expand the storage up to 128 GB via microSD card.
The 5.65-inch display is of HD+ resolution. The protection of NEG glass has also been given on it. Viewing angles are good. The phone is capable of giving multiple outputs and reading on the phone even in direct sunlight is not a problem. The handset has a 4,000 mAh capacity battery, which comes with a 10 W charger. In terms of connectivity, the phone has Bluetooth 4.2, USB-OTG, GPS and Wi-Fi features. The phone supports dual sim, which has 2 nano sim slots. It also has 4G and VoLTE support.
Infinix has used Android Oreo in Hot S3, which is no less than good news. Hummingbird XOS 3.0 user interface is on the phone. The UI is pretty much the same as stock Android but overall attractive. When unlocked, the phone can be ‘wake up’ with a double tap and letters can be made to launch the app. The phone also has one hand mode. Like Huawei’s EMUI interface, the feature is activated by just swiping.
Some apps will be pre-installed in the phone. Apart from all the Google apps, users will also get the company’s own apps like XClub, XShare, XTheme. XClub is a file sharing app, whereas with XTheme you will be able to enjoy different themes. The phone also features Phoenix Browser, Magic Movie, and a social networking app produced by Transition Mobile. Also there is a cleaner that cleans RAM. There’s also a freezer app that lets you drag and drop apps.
Infinix Hot S3 Performance, Camera and Battery
Hot S3 is equipped with Snapdragon 430. Despite the 3 GB RAM, the performance of the phone was much better. It is smooth to use and there is no hiccups or pauses in the user interface. The fingerprint scanner is generally fast. The display panel will also be appreciated. In terms of screen, we are behind Infinix. The pictures taken from the phone really surprised us. Most of the pictures came out beautiful thanks to the vivid display. In landscape mode, the exposure was definitely getting high, but correcting it manually gave better results. Photos came out clear overall but pixels were visible when viewed at full size. Macros shots are better and the phone is capable of capturing the juxtaposition of colours. However, taking macros indoors slows down. It takes time to focus.
Photos taken in low light also came with limited noise. When zoomed in, pixels were visible in these pictures as well. Infinix Hot S3 sports a 20-megapixel front camera with dual LED flash. Selfies are better. Beautify mode is applied automatically and Bokeh mode is also given in it. On most occasions, the bokeh effect gave better results, but sometimes the edges were blurred instead of in focus. Video recording goes up to 1080 pixels resolution. Since there is no stabilization mode, you will have to keep your hand steady while recording.
Talking about budget smartphones, this segment is getting better day by day. Infinix Hot S3 is one of the better all-rounder handsets launched in recent times. Even though it is not the most powerful budget phone, but on the back of capable hardware, it performs all the tasks well. Like the Infinix Zero 5 Pro, the Hot S3’s display is also the most powerful feature. The camera performance does not disappoint considering the price.
