Due to this, access of users to social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube has been almost closed in Pakistan. Clips of violence in different parts of the country were shown on social media after Imran’s arrest. This increased the anger of the workers and supporters of Imran’s party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). To stop the violence, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was ordered to block internet services. After this, there was an interruption in the services of YouTube and Twitter. Due to this nothing is being uploaded on social media platforms.
The Islamabad High Court has told Imran’s arrest under the law. In a petition filed in the court, this arrest was demanded to be declared illegal. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had issued a warrant against Imran in the Al Qadir Trust case. NAB is under investigation regarding a past agreement between Imran-led Tehreek-e-Insaf government and a big real estate tycoon. In this case, apart from Imran, his wife Bushra Bibi and some PTI leaders are facing investigation. The deal is alleged to have caused a loss of around £190 million to the government.
There is a dispute going on between the present government led by Imran and Nawaz Sharif over the demand of holding elections in Pakistan. Imran has demanded early elections, while the government wants to postpone it. Inflation and unemployment have increased a lot in Pakistan in the last few years. There is also a danger of Pakistan defaulting under the burden of heavy debt.
