Iphone Maker Apple Opens Its First Store in Delhi, CEO Tim Cook Welcomes Customers

US iPhone maker Apple opened its first store in the capital on Thursday. The store is located in Select Citywalk Mall, Saket. On this occasion, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook welcomed the customers. The company opened its store in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The store has more than 70 workers from 18 states in the country, who can speak more than 15 languages. For this store, Apple will pay a rent of Rs 40 lakh per month or a part of its total sales, whichever is higher. Cook had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. In this, he gave information about the company’s plan to increase investment in the country.

Sharing a picture of him shaking hands with Prime Minister Modi, Cook wrote on Twitter: “We share your vision of the positive impact of technology on India’s future. We remain committed to growth and investment in the country.” In response, Modi tweeted that he was very happy to meet Cook.

In the last financial year, the export of mobile phones from the country has increased to $ 11.12 billion (about Rs 90,000 crore). Apple’s stake in this is about half. Apple’s Mumbai store is in the Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio World Drive Mall in the Branda Kurla Complex. The company has earlier been selling its products in the country through resellers or e-commerce websites like Amazon. Assembling of iPhones in India is done by Apple’s three contract manufacturers – Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron. The company also plans to start assembling iPad and AirPod in the country. India is an important market for Apple. The company’s sales have reached a high level in the country. Apart from this, the company has also made preparations to increase the production of iPhone in India. In February, Apple had overtaken Xiaomi to become the second largest smartphone company in Asia.
