By the way, Lenovo K8 Plus is not part of the Android One family like Xiaomi Mi A1 (Review). But the experience of using it is almost the same. Is this the only interesting feature in Lenovo K8 Plus? Let’s know.
Lenovo K8 Plus Design
If you have used any Lenovo smartphone recently, then the K8 Plus will look very familiar. Like other options in the market, Lenovo K8 Plus has a metal body. At first glance, the size of the phone will grab your attention. It is the link between Lenovo K8 and Lenovo K8 Note. It is made to be used with one hand. The phone has a 5.2 inch Full HD display. Capacitive Android navigation buttons are at the bottom of the display. Lenovo has used non-backlit navigation buttons in this phone. It is difficult to find these buttons in the dark.
The power and volume buttons are on the right. The texture of the power button is slightly different, so it is easily recognized. On the other hand, there is a physical music button. You can also use it to play or pause songs, or even change songs. The good thing is that this button can also be customized to take a screenshot or launch a specific app.
Lenovo K8 Plus is a dual SIM device and has a SIM tray on the left side. You will get 2 slots for Nano SIM and a separate slot for MicroSD card.
On the back side, two rear cameras have been given in K8 Plus. The cameras come with dual-tone LED flash. The fingerprint sensor has got a place under the camera. It is easy to reach it. The response is also good and we never had any problem unlocking the phone. The metal back gets easily fingerprinted. These were clearly visible on our Venom Black review unit. There is a Micro-USB port on the bottom of the phone. It has speaker grills on both sides. The 3.5mm headphone socket has got a place at the top.
Lenovo K8 Plus is a bit thick. The thickness is 8.99 mm and the weight is 165 grams. Some people will find it a bit bulky. The reason for this could be the big battery of 4000 mAh.
Lenovo K8 Plus Specifications and Software
Lenovo K8 Plus has a 5.2-inch full-HD display. There is protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on it. Viewing angles are good. Color reproduction is also fine. If you want punchy contrast, you have the option to switch the color mode of the display. Brightness is adequate for indoors, but you will have trouble reading anything on the screen in sunlight.
Lenovo has used MediaTek Helio P25 octa-core processor with 2.5GHz clock speed. Lenovo K8 Plus has 4 GB RAM. Storage is 32 GB and you will be able to use microSD card up to 128 GB.
To stay in trend, Lenovo K8 Plus has two rear cameras. One camera is 13 megapixels and the other is 5 megapixels. In the setup, the secondary camera works to measure the depth in depth mode. An 8-megapixel sensor has been given on the front panel. It comes with selfie flash. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone has two Nano SIM slots and both support 4G VoLTE. Apart from this, you will get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi b / g / n.
Android fans will be happy to know that the Lenovo K8 Plus runs on stock Android Nougat. Now there is no difference between the company’s Lenovo and Motorola brand UI. Apart from select Microsoft Office apps, the phone does not have any other bloatware. From Lenovo, you will also get the option to install some apps while setting up the phone. However, unlike Android One phones, future updates are not promised.
Lenovo K8 Plus performance, battery life and cameras
Lenovo has chosen strong hardware for the K8 Plus. The benchmark test results point in the same direction. We got 4 GB RAM variants for review. It handles multitasking with ease. There is so much power in this phone that you will not have any problem in working on common used apps. We played games like sniper 3d, drafty chase and clash royale on this phone. It never slowed down. However, the phone does get hot during playing games for a long time. But that didn’t make our gaming experience bad.
The battery of the phone is 4000 mAh. Due to this the phone has become a bit thick and the weight is also more. Battery life is good and the phone will last for about one and a half hours in normal use. The battery lasted for 13 hours and 49 minutes in our HD video loop test, which is good. This large battery will be fully charged in about 2 hours with the charger provided with the handset.
Lenovo has given a very basic camera app which is easy to use. The toggles for HDR and Camera mode are easily accessible. You will get Panorama and Professional mode. You will be able to record 1080p resolution video with both cameras at 30 frames per second.
Landscape photos taken with the K8 Plus came out fine. But they didn’t have the sharpness we expected. Photos taken in HDR mode in daylight look a bit awkward. Sometimes good pictures come and sometimes bad ones. Night time shots were good. The camera manages to control the noise in low light. Macros shots came out quite well. The camera captured images with detail in daylight and low-light conditions.
Depth mode can be easily enabled. The difference between the background and the subject is clearly visible in the output. However, we found that the camera slows down a bit after taking a few pictures. The 8-megapixel front camera has a Beautify feature. It can be used manually or in auto mode. The pictures taken with the front camera were of good quality. You will be able to use them on messenger and social networking sites without hesitation. The front flash proves to be a handy feature in dark areas.
Lenovo wants to gain popularity by opting for stock Android and achieving a balance between features and prices. Lenovo K8 Plus is a capable handset and performs well in daily use. Battery life is strong. You will be able to use it for more than a day without charging. There is enough storage for the common user. The good thing is that you will get a separate slot for microSD card, no need to compromise with another SIM card. Apart from this, the feature with two rear cameras is attracting the attention of customers in today’s date. Camera performance could be better in landscape mode, but it should also be remembered that this is a budget phone. If stock Android experience and good battery life are your priority then Lenovo K8 Plus is a good option.
