Total production of passenger cars increased from 47,884 units in September last year to 1,31,258 units in the same period this year. Production of utility vehicles stood at 29,811 units. This was 21,873 units in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki’s light commercial vehicle Super Carry produced 3,539 units in September. The figure stood at 3,496 units in the same month last year. In September last year, the company’s overall production was low due to supply chain issues.
Maruti Suzuki’s total sales in September stood at 1,76,306 units. This includes domestic sales of 1,50,885 units, sales to other OEMs of 4,018 units and exports of 21,403 units. The company launched the new Grand Vitara last month. It is the flagship SUV of the company. Due to less choice of vehicles with hybrid engine in the mid-size segment, it is getting good response from the customers. The company had received around 57,000 pre-bookings for it.
However, its high price can affect its sales. Its price ranges from Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the costliest vehicle of the company. It has new 1.5-litre petrol engine with strong hybrid technology with e-CVT and 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine options. It will get the option of 5 speed manual gearbox and 6 speed AT. The company claims that its hybrid variant gives a mileage of 27.97 kilometers in one liter of petrol. The new Grand Vitara will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq and the Kia Seltos. Experts say that the success of the new Grand Vitara will depend on the customer interest in it even after its launch. Earlier, Maruti Suzuki’s vehicles have not got much success in the high-end price segment.
