Motorola One Fusion+ vs Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: Cameras Comparison

Motorola One Fusion+ and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max both have four cameras at the back. The camera configuration on both these devices is the same: a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Both phones take 16-megapixel photos by default. Selfie cameras are a bit different – Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (Review) has a 16-megapixel camera. I found the camera apps of both the brands to be simple. There are several different modes to choose from in these apps, but we’ll focus on basic performance in this comparison. Both the phones are fast in locking focus and identifying the scene. In broad daylight, both phones automatically enabled HDR to capture good detail, but here the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max managed to take better shots, while the Motorola One Fusion+ exposed the skies more than necessary. On zooming the photo, we found the picture of One Fusion+ to be sharper and with better detail. Switching to the wide-angle camera allows both phones to capture a wider field of view. The Motorola One Fusion+ managed to get the exposure just right, but here it was the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, which delivered better quality overall.


Motorola One Fusion+ was the clear winner for closeups. In this the color tone came right, while the shot of Redmi Note 9 Pro Max got a yellow tone. Depth is good in both the phones.

Both the phones did a good job with portraits and you can set the blur level before taking a shot. We found that both the cameras were good for portraits and performed equally well, as they had good edge detection and blurred backgrounds well.

The Motorola One Fusion+ and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max smartphones include 5-megapixel macro lenses and give you the opportunity to capture a subject very closely while shooting. We got to see better macro shots in the Motorola One Fusion+.

Both these smartphones were able to control noise in pictures taken in low light. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max gave us slightly brighter and better-detailed shots than the Motorola One Fusion+. When Night Mode is enabled, both the smartphones keep their camera shutter open for a longer time, due to which the pictures come out brighter. Redmi Note 9 Pro Max captures better detail in the shadows. However, we got to see a strange red hue in the shots taken with it. When we zoomed in, shots on the Motorola One Fusion+ looked better.


Both phones fail to capture good close-ups in low light, but the AI on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max boosted the colors a bit, making objects look strange.

For selfies, both in daylight and low light, the Motorola One Fusion+ outperformed the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.


Both these smartphones record video in maximum 4K resolution and both use EIS to stabilize the footage. When shooting at 1080p in daylight, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max delivers better stabilization. The Motorola One Fusion+ over-sharp footage and didn’t have that good stabilization. For 4K video, we found the Motorola One Fusion+ better. In low light, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max recorded brighter videos than the Motorola One Fusion+, but both the phones had shimmer in their recordings.
Verdict
The rear camera setup of Motorola One Fusion+ and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max are very similar to each other in terms of number of cameras and their resolution. The only difference is in the selfie camera and there is no doubt that the 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera included in the Motorola phone is better than the 16-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera included in the Redmi phone. The performance of the rear camera setup of both these smartphones is almost the same. The rear cameras of both the smartphones have room for improvement through updates.
