Opera claims, new feature will give 50 percent more battery life than Chrome

Opera on Thursday introduced a new feature for its Windows and OS X browsers. The company claims that the new feature will increase the laptop’s battery life by up to 50 percent compared to the previous Opera browser and Google Chrome.

The new ‘Power Saving’ developer is available in stream and works automatically. The company says that once the laptop’s power source is removed, a battery icon will appear in the Opera browser after the search and address fields. Users can click on the battery icon to activate ‘Power Saving Mode’. Opera browser will detect the laptop battery and also advise the user to enable power saving mode (if the laptop is running on low power).

Announcing the new feature, the company said, “It is very bad to drain a laptop battery while traveling, while watching videos or when you have forgotten your charger. Our new Power Saving Mode will let you know when the laptop is consuming more battery and when enabled it can extend battery life by up to 50 percent.

Opera said in its test that with the latest developer version, users could get up to 50 percent more battery life than other browsers.

The new developer version of Opera 39 is currently available for download on the company’s website. Opera further said that memory management is also being tested in the developer version.

Opera has added several new features to its browser in recent times including ad-blockers. At the same time, Opera VPN was released for iOS with a built-in ad-blocker.
