Personal computer sales down in India: Gartner

In the first quarter of 2015, a total of two million units of personal computers (PCs) were sold in India, down 7.4 per cent over the same quarter last year. Market research firm Gartner gave this information on Tuesday. “In the first quarter of 2016, consumers bought 45 percent of the total PCs, down 48 percent from the first quarter of 2015,” said Vishal Tripathi, director of research at Gartner.

At the same time, there were fewer PC purchases by both the industry sector and consumers in the first quarter of 2016.

He adds, “While this quarter was the end of the financial year for some companies, it was expected that the industry would buy heavily to spend its budget. But it will see more impact on the PC market. and the PC market continues to face challenging times.”

According to Gartner, HP was the number one company in the Indian market in the first quarter of 2016 because of the company’s good reach from online sales to retailers.

At the same time, mobile PC sales in the first quarter have also seen a decline of 13 per cent on a year-on-year basis, as consumers are no longer inclined to buy it.
