A shootout between two gangsters and the police near Amritsar today left two suspects dead, suspected of being part of the group responsible for the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala. In addition to the three policemen, three other people were injured. In a nearly five-hour-long shootout that ended around 4 pm, Manpreet Singh alias Mannu Kussa continued to fire for about an hour before he was killed. He had been at the scene for about 40 minutes when Jagroop Singh Roopa was killed.
Right leg was injured by a bullet when a news channel’s cameraperson was caught in the crossfire.
After the encounter at Bhakna village, about 20 kilometers from Amritsar, the chief of state police Gaurav Yadav also arrived at the scene.
As Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force was tracking the two men around noon, the incident began. In addition to them, three other shooters remained at large. Although Deepak Mundi was found in both of these cases, he has yet to be found in Deepak Mundi. Various arrests have been made for the remaining shooters — there were at least eight.
Despite the fact that ambulances had reached the scene just minutes before police pronounced Jagroop Roopa dead, he had already died. Approximately 10 km from Pakistan’s border, the area was cordoned off and people were warned to remain indoors.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moose Wala, 28, was killed on May 29 in Punjab’s Mansa district nearby his village Moosa. He was a Congress leader and a singer-songwriter and rapper as well.
In a police report, Mannu Kussa was said to have fired the first shot at Moose Wala using an AK-47 rifle.
The investigation is being conducted by police from Punjab, Delhi, and Mumbai. Goldy Brar, the alias of Canadian Satinderjit Singh, allegedly directed the murder with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was already incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail at the time.
A Facebook post allegedly claiming responsibility for the murder was written by Goldy Brar. According to the posts, it was revenge for the killing of Akali leader Vicky Middukhera last year. There have been two more cases registered at Faridkot in Punjab where Goldy Brar has been issued a Red Corner Notice by Interpol seeking his location.
The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of Punjab has also been under fire given that the murder occurred just days after Sidhu Moose Wala’s security was pared down to two cops in an effort to combat “VIP culture”. It was not his bulletproof car that the singer was driving when he was attacked, nor had he taken the two cops with him.
