Review of LeEco LE 1S Eeco

China’s LeEco company, which entered the Indian market through Le 1S handset a few months ago, has started launching faster and cheaper phones in the market. By making the phone a means, the company has introduced its content service ‘Leeco Membership’. The company expects these services to become its main source of revenue in the future.

It’s an interesting strategy, and somewhat of a gamble. Will customers pay for the subscription from the next year after one year of free membership is over? It will be visible. Will LeEco be able to make an offer that Indian smartphone users will not be able to deny? Keeping all these things in mind, we Le 1s Eco Let’s introduce you to the review.

look and design
if you take 1s There is nothing new to say about the Le 1S Eeco if you have seen or used it. Both the phones are exactly the same. The new model is currently available only in the Gold variant, but there is no such change in the design of both to mention. No changes have been made in terms of dimensions and weight either. The old LeTV logo was still present in the test unit given to us. This is shocking, as the company has taken a long time to replace it.

The materials and build quality used to make the Le 1S are excellent. So we are completely satisfied with this phone as well. It gives a feeling of being more expensive than it looks. It’s a bit sharp at the edges, but it’s generally comfortable to hold and use.

All important points are easily accessible, even if there is a fingerprint sensor on the rear. A Nano SIM and a Micro SIM card can be used in the SIM card slot on the right. Support for microSD card is not present in the handset. The Le 1S Echo comes with a USB Type-C port that can be used for charging and data transfer. You’ll also find a quick charger, which is larger and heavier than most commonly found chargers.

Specification
The Le 1s Eeco comes with a CPU with a slightly lower clock speed as compared to the Le 1s. It also comes with the octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, but the company has said that it will clock speed of 1.8 GHz compared to the 2.2 GHz clock speed of the old phone.

It has a 5.5-inch display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution. The new variant also has 3 GB RAM and inbuilt storage is 32 GB. No changes have been made in the 3000 mAh battery, 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera as well. You will also find a fingerprint sensor on the rear side.

In this, both the SIMs will support 4G LTE network with Wi-Fi AC, Bluetooth 4.1 and A-GPS. There is no space for a microSD card, but the company will get 5 TB of cloud storage free of cost in the membership. These are great specifications for any phone, which makes the Le 1s Echo even more impressive at this price point.

This means that you are being given the old phone with radical changes, but at a lower price. We have to see how the low clock speed will affect the performance. Hopefully it won’t have much effect.

Software
In this department, the new LE 1S Eeco sets itself apart from the old phone. The phone currently runs on Android 5.0.2 and we feel that the custom EUI skin needs more work. We believe that unnecessary changes have been made to the common capabilities of Android. This custom UI can be further improved by using core software updates and some industry tricks.

However, the most important feature of this phone is the LeEco membership package. This gives the user access to movies, TV channels, songs and live streams. You can get here by tapping on the Live icon that appears at the bottom of the homescreen. Simply put, this is the customized version of Yupp TV.

Right now the channel options are limited, but the quality is not bad with a fast internet connection. You will find many news and music channels in 10 Indian languages. But the options of sports, movies, entertainment channels are not there yet.

performance
Media features aside, the Le 1S Echo is a strong phone. We found that the phone got very hot at times while streaming videos and especially while charging. It can get a little uncomfortable if you keep holding it in your hands constantly. There was no problem playing the game. The experience of watching movies on full HD screen was great. The built in speakers are good, but not enough for group video viewing.

The impact of low clock speed was not very much in the benchmark results. The benchmark results of the Le 1s Eeco remained the same as that of the older Le 1s.

The phone’s battery lasted for 6 hours and 7 minutes in our battery loop test, which is disappointing. The phone’s battery lasted well in normal use and the standby time was also noticeable.

The performance of the camera was also like that of the Le 1S. Photos taken in daylight turned out to be quite good. Sometimes there was a problem of focus lock. Shots taken in low light turned out to be very poor. Photos taken even under the illumination of streetlamps, shop signs or windows were not usable. This is where the reason behind the cheapness of this variant of the Le 1S is known.

our decision
LeEco has made an interesting decision to launch the Le 1s Eeco as a separate model rather than a special edition of the old phone. Both the phones are almost identical. Apart from a difference of Rs 100 in price and a slight difference in clock speed, nothing is different. The company’s focus is on content and here LeEco will have to do a lot of work to create consensus among the customers.

If the content provided by this company is not of your use, then you would prefer to spend Rs 490 per month on any other content of your choice. However, the 5TB Klyde storage is a great offer in this price range.

If content is more important to you than a low clock speed processor, then instead of buying the Le 1s, consider the Le 1s Eco. On the other hand, if you are never going to use the content, then buy the old Le 1S. Both are good looking. If you are very concerned about camera quality and battery life, then avoid both the phones.
