Samsung has recently good performance premium Smartphones introduced. But the company could not achieve this success in its mid-range smartphone. And it was seen lagging behind in this price segment from other brands. The main reason for this was the introduction of new Chinese smartphone companies with better specifications in the same price segment.

The Galaxy J series has been a significant change for Samsung. According to IDC data released in August, the Galaxy J series was quite successful in the Indian market and Samsung’s smartphones were sold in large numbers in the second quarter of 2016. The company has also given India-specific ‘smart’ features like S Power Planning, S Bike Mode and S Secure, especially in this phone. These features have been developed at the company’s R&D centre. look and texture
Samsung users have been complaining about the lack of new design in the Galaxy series of smartphones for many years. The South Korean company has made some design changes in its premium segment smartphones but the budget and mid-range smartphones largely follow the old Samsung style. The Galaxy J7 Prime is also a part of that crowd.

This phone has a physical home button below the display, which is flanked by capacitive recent and back buttons. Apart from the metal rear panel, the new J7 Prime feels sturdy and its rounded rounded edges make it comfortable to hold. The Galaxy J7 Prime is a bit thick at 8mm thick. However, despite having a 5.5-inch screen, the phone weighs 167 grams. The phone has a 3.5mm audio jack and a micro-USB port at the bottom. The phone has the Samsung logo on top of the display. Apart from this, the company’s branding is also on the rear.

The metal body on the Galaxy J7 Prime definitely makes it better than other phones in the same price range. The phone has 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on the front, which gives the phone a premium feel. With the 5.5-inch screen size, the J7 Prime isn’t easy to use with one hand and we could use it with both hands during our review. The metal rear panel also makes the handset a bit slippery, especially when the hands are sweaty. There is a power button on the right side of the phone and the SIM and microSD card slots have been given equally. Samsung has given separate slots for SIM and microSD card in the J7 Prime. Due to which the user does not have to choose between the first SIM or microSD card like the hybrid slot.

The Galaxy J7 Prime has a camera on the rear with LED flash. It is worth noting that the rear panel of the phone is not completely made of metal and plastic panels have been used on the top and bottom. However, because of the paint, it looks like metal.

The Galaxy J7 Prime has a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the home button. The fingerprint sensor is always easy to use. This allows the device to be unlocked instantly. Double tapping on the home button opens the camera and this camera works even when the phone is locked.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display which is quite bright. The phone can be read easily even in sunlight. Colors look good in the phone and black levels are also great. 480 ppi density means that the text on the screen looks sharp. The J7 Prine is a great device for watching videos and playing games.

Specifications and software
The new Galaxy J7 Prime is powered by an octa-core Samsung Exynos 7870 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. The phone has 3 GB RAM. This phone has 16 GB inbuilt storage which can be expanded up to 256 GB via microSD card. This dual sim phone comes with two nano sim and 4G support. However, 4G can be connected only on one SIM card at a time. This phone has a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with aperture F / 1.9 and an LED flash. The phone has an 8-megapixel front camera. The Galaxy J7 Prime packs a 3300mAh non-removable battery. Talking about connectivity, the Galaxy J7 Prime has features like GPRS / EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n / ac, GPS / A-GPS, Bluetooth and GLONASS.

This phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, on top of which Samsung’s TouchWiz UI has been given. Samsung has put in a lot of work on its TouchWiz UI over the years and it’s now lighter than ever. Like Samsung’s current premium smartphone, the J7 Prime also comes with a number of preloaded apps such as Microsoft Word, Excel, OneDrive, OneNote, PowerPoint and Skype. On the home screen of the phone, there is a Google folder that houses Google apps such as Gmail, Chrome, Google Search, YouTube, Drive, Play Music, Play Movies & TV, Hangouts and Photos. Apart from Google and Microsoft, the J7 Prime also comes pre-installed with several Samsung apps including the phone’s default mail app and web browser, S Health, Galaxy Apps and S Planner.

Talking about the software, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime comes with the new S Power Planning and S Secure feature. The phone also has Ultra-Data Saving Mode and S Bike Mode. However, these two feature smartphones have been given in the previous smartphone as well.

S Power planning allows the user to last longer with the remaining battery. The company has given a new battery management system, it has been named S Power Planning. The company says that keeping in mind your needs, it gives you many facilities when the battery is low. If your phone’s battery is getting low, then you can reserve the battery for important calls and messages. This is possible by reducing unnecessary background activity. With the help of this feature, you will be able to forward all your incoming calls to a specific number in case the battery runs out.

The company has introduced a new feature S Secure with this handset. With its help, you will be able to lock and hide a particular app. Apart from this, you will be able to keep any content private and secure. Apart from this, the fingerprint scanner gives you additional security. With AppLock and Hide, you will be able to put a virtual lock on any app. And it will also be possible to hide them. The Galaxy J7 Prime also comes with Secure Wi-Fi, which encrypts data during public Wi-Fi hotspots.

Apart from this, the S bike mode given in the J7 Prime was earlier seen in the Galaxy J3 (6). The S Bike Mode feature has been designed keeping in mind that the incoming phone call does not cause any trouble to the two-wheeler rider. Once this feature is activated, the user will get to know about the incoming call through a feature named ‘Smart Reply’ in the phone. Along with this, users can also activate this mode by tapping on the Galaxy J3 (6) with the NFC tag that comes with the retail box. The company says that the NFC tag can be affixed on the bike’s petrol tank or helmet, so that users can easily activate and deactivate this mode. While riding, the caller will get a pre-recorded message that the user is currently on a two-wheeler and is not able to take calls. While this mode is active, the user will not be able to detect the incoming call and will not face any problem due to no vibration or ringing during the incoming call. However, people calling Galaxy J3 (6) users will be able to make direct calls by pressing 1 in case of an emergency.

Keeping in mind the convenience of the user, Samsung has defaulted to S Power Planning, S Secure, Secure Wi-Fi and S Bike Mode in the quick settings panel.

The Galaxy J7 Prime sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash. Due to the large aperture, more light comes in every shot, which gives pictures with detail in the day. Most of the pictures taken with the phone’s camera come with good colors and crisp. We noted that the focus can be done smoothly with this handset.

On the other hand, the Galaxy J7 Prime produces crisp pictures indoors or when the light is low. However, when zoomed in at full size, the pictures are a bit distorted. Overall, the performance of the rear camera of J7 is quite good. The phone only records videos with full-HD resolution.

The J7 Prime comes with a selfie with detailing with the 8-megapixel camera and aperture F/1.9. Photos from the front camera come with little noise in low light. The camera app on the Jun7 is easy to use and launches quickly.

During our review process, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime was able to do almost everything with ease. The octa-core processor given in the phone works very well and we have no complaints about it. Games like Dead Trigger 2 run smoothly in the phone. Multitasking is good in J7 Prime and apps are also launched quickly.

While using this device, we noticed that the phone had about 1.3 GB of free memory all the time which is a good thing. Enjoy watching videos and playing games on 5.5 inch screen. The sound from the speaker is quite good and we did not have any problem even at high volumes. Samsung didn’t send us headphones in the box, so we checked the audio quality with our headphones and we found it quite good.

However, the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy J7 Prime disappointed us a bit. Most of the time it works fine but sometimes the phone is unlocked only after pressing the home button multiple times. We have seen much better smartphones that perform faster than the J7 Prime.

During our review, we did not face any problem with 4G connectivity on the Galaxy J7 Prime. And we could run 4g vodafone sim well all the time.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime got pretty decent numbers in our standard benchmark tests.

battery life
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is backed by a 3300mAh non-removable battery. In our video loop test, the handset lasted continuously for 14 hours and 50 minutes, which cannot be called bad. At the same time, on a single charge of Galaxy J7 with medium usage, it lasts for about 36 hours.

Samsung is not praising any kind of fast charging in the Galaxy J7 Prime. But we saw that the phone gets charged from 0 to 40 percent in 30 minutes. It took just two hours to charge the phone from zero to 100%.
