NASA has reported that the Kawachi volcano in the Solomon Islands is home to two species of sharks. According to the agency, this area is one of the most active volcanoes in the Pacific region. One of these volcanoes, which is under water, has been seen by Landsat-9 erupting. NASA has shared images related to it on Twitter and has written, have you heard about Sharknado.
Kawachi volcano started erupting in October last year. Satellite images show that due to this volcano, there was a change in the color of the water in April and May this year. NASA’s Earth Observatory has told that the top of this volcano is about 65 feet or 20 meters below the water. Talking about the previous records, even before this volcanic eruption, big eruptions were seen in Kawachi in the years 2007 and 2014. This is the third eruption in this volcano and people living in the surrounding area keep coming to take stock of it.
Speaking of volcanic eruptions in water, we should also know about a volcanic eruption that took place earlier this year in Tonga, a country located in the South Pacific Ocean. Earlier this year, the volcano erupted under the sea, generating massive pressure waves, or shock waves, some of which passed through Earth’s atmosphere.
Because of these shock waves, people in the American state of Alaska, 10,000 kilometers away, also reported noise and buoyancy in the water. Now two new studies have shown that this is the biggest explosion in the last 140 years. The event in Tonga has been compared to the Krakatau eruption in Indonesia in 1883. More than 30 thousand people were killed in that horrific incident.
