The Ford Motor Company has created a prototype robot charging station to assist disabled drivers.
With this technology, a driver can use their smartphone to connect the charger to their vehicle using a robot arm.
A hands-free charging solution for Ford's vehicles is currently being tested through a research project.
Charging solutions for electric vehicles and fully autonomous vehicles would enable them to be plugged in without human intervention.
The technology is now being tested in real-life situations after successful lab tests.
After activating the charger, the station cover slides open and the charging arm extends once the charger is turned on.
Once the station has been charged, the arm retracts and the cover closes.
In the trial, drivers can monitor the charge status via the FordPass app.
The charger is being built with Dortmund University and will be installed in underground garages, parking lots, and private homes.
