You will have to pay Rs 12,990 for the 3 GB and 32 GB storage variants of Galaxy On7 Prime, while if you prefer 4 GB and 64 GB storage then you will have to pay Rs 14,990. The exclusive sale of this smartphone will start from January 20 on Amazon India. To take on popular smartphones like Xiaomi Mi A1, Lenovo K8 Note and Nokia 5, Samsung has added some apps and unique software features to the On7 Prime. We spent some time with the handset at the launch event and tested the phone. How did we like this Samsung handset at first glance? Let’s say…
Before going deeper, we will talk about the new feature named ‘Samsung Mall’, which Samsung has brought to India for the first time. With the help of this app, users will be able to buy the product of their choice online from all the e-commerce sites at one place. The specialty of this feature is that you can take a picture of any product and buy the same product online. It has been claimed about the feature that with the help of image recognition, your favorite product will be added to the cart in one click, which you will be able to buy easily by paying online.
When we investigated this feature, we found that many of the items we selected were not matching. Apart from this, there was a problem in making the frame of any shot. But this is initial experience. The final decision on this will be given only after reviewing the handset. On the other hand, this app did identify some popular smartphones like Google Pixel 2 and iPhone 7 Plus. Hopefully this feature will get better with time.
Talking about the design, the Galaxy On7 Prime looks a lot like the Galaxy J7 Prime. Coming with a metal body like the J7 Prime, the weight of this smartphone is 167 grams. The phone is 151.7mm long, 75mm wide and 8mm thick. On7 Prime you get a 5.5-inch Full HD screen, which comes with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. It has a PLS TFT LCD screen with 16: 9 aspect ratio. 2.5D curved glass has been used for a premium look. The display is similar to the rest of Samsung’s smartphones, in which you will get better viewing angles, color and good brightness combination.
The home button is given below the display and there are capacitive buttons on both the sides. One button is for multitasking and the other is for going back. There is also a home button, fingerprint sensor. We found the fingerprint sensor to be accurate and works fast. Just above the display is a 13-megapixel selfie camera, which is equipped with F / 1.9 aperture. We found that the Galaxy On7’s front camera takes natural pictures, without adding unnecessary filters. Keeping in mind the craze of Instagram and Snapchat stickers, Samsung has given the sticker feature in the smartphone itself.
The primary camera of Galaxy On7 Prime is also 13 megapixels, with f / 1.9 aperture. It is also equipped with autofocus. The autofocus feature looked a bit weak at first glance. We did not get the expected results while taking macro shots. Let us tell you that Samsung has claimed about both the cameras that the user will get better photo quality even in low light. We could not verify this at the launch event, but while reviewing it in detail, we will definitely make you aware of the truth of the claims.
On the back side of the smartphone, only the camera and LED flash have taken the place. You will also see the Samsung logo here. Due to the metal body, this phone will fit better in your palm.
Loud speaker and power / lock button are given on the right side of the phone. On the left side, there is a volume button, SIM card slot and space for the microSD card. Apart from this, the phone has a Micro-USB port at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Talking about the hardware, Samsung’s own octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset has been used in On7 Prime. We will discuss in detail in our review about the performance of this processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz. At the launch event, we got a variant with 4 GB RAM, in which there was no problem in using it.
This smartphone will run on Samsung Experience 8.5 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The company has not said anything about the Android 8.0 Oreo update at the moment. Since there have been reports about the beta Oreo update for the Galaxy J7 Prime, we expect the On7 Prime to get the latest Android update as well.
Apart from the Samsung Mall feature, this smartphone also supports Samsung Pay Mini, which will act as an online wallet and UPI for you. Due to lack of internet, we could not even use this feature at the launch event. Apart from this, you will get features like One Hand Mode, Camera Shortcut, Multi Window, Split Screen and Smart Alert in the phone. Smart Alert will alert you about missed calls and messages. Along with this, Galaxy On7 Prime will come with apps like Microsoft Office and LinkedIn. Like other smartphones today, you will get pre-installed apps like Google, Gmail and YouTube.
Talking about the battery, you will get 3300 mAh battery in Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime, which we will test soon in our review and let you know about the results. Overall, Samsung Galaxy On7 is a ‘value for money phone’ in terms of battery, camera, performance, software or not? We will let you know in our review soon. Stay connected with Gadgets 360.
