Earlier, Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar had told that his ministry will send a notice to WhatsApp on the problem of calls coming from unknown international numbers. He said that it is the responsibility of the digital platforms to ensure the safety of the users and they are accountable for it. If the privacy of users is violated on any such platform, then the government will take appropriate action on it.

Truecaller, which provides caller identification service on mobile phones, has made preparations to provide this service on WhatsApp as well. This will make it easier for users to avoid spam calls on the Internet. This feature is in beta phase and can be launched soon. In this regard, Truecaller had told in a report that users in India receive an average of 18 spam calls per month.
