According to the report of news agency PTI, the Department of Telecom has blocked 2.25 lakh mobile numbers. All these numbers were bought by giving illegal documents. The department has also asked the telecom companies to take action against 517 POS who were involved in this malpractice. They have been asked to be blacklisted.
In the statement of a senior official of the Department of Telecom, it has been said that in the month of April, more than 2.25 lakh mobile numbers have been deactivated in Bihar and Jharkhand. Most of the SIM cards were obtained through illegal/unethical means.
According to the statement, 517 PoS have been blacklisted as they were also involved in these activities. Telecom companies are going to take legal action against all those POS and customers. The Department of Telecom is working closely with the state police in this entire matter. Police has assured that it will take concrete and strict action against SIM fraudsters.
As per the report, DoT has analyzed the faces of more than 87 crore SIM customers across the country to curb the menace of cybercrime. The results related to this are being shared with the field units of the Department of Telecom so that strict action can be taken against the fraudsters with the help of the police.
