Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 performance, camera and battery

The Redmi Note 4 was a great all-rounder handset. Very few handsets could challenge it. The company has done something similar with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. According to the price, Redmi Note 5 comes with strong hardware. The MIUI 9 is smooth to use and controls the processor load time. Some basic apps open very quickly and powerful apps don’t take much time. We reviewed the 4 GB RAM variant, which is enough for multitasking. In the benchmark test, the performance of the phone was similar to that of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

We can also say that the handset is also excellent as a media player. The phone played all kinds of video and audio files. Viewing angles are good. The loudspeaker is also loud. Keep in mind that while holding the phone, your hand should not come in the way of the loudspeaker.


The battery of Note 5 impressed us a lot. The handset lasted 16 hours and 8 minutes in our video loop test, despite the larger screen and lower battery capacity compared to the older version. In normal use, it will be able to support the user for a whole day.

The sensor in the Redmi Note 5 may have been upgraded, but the camera software remains the same. It automatically goes into auto mode as soon as the camera is turned on. You can also put it in manual, beauty and panorama modes. In manual mode, only the options are given to change the white balance and ISO settings.


Photos taken during day time and in low light with Redmi Note 5 were good. There was no shortage of detail in landscape shots taken in daylight. The exposure was also correct on most of the occasions. The camera focuses quickly. This is helpful for macro shots. Macros shots came out better than we expected. Photos taken after turning on the HDR mode had dark areas with more detail. But the lighting parts started to burn out.

The camera automatically switches to night mode in low light. Noise was low in landscape shots. The Redmi Note 5 performed well even when taking pictures from a certain distance. Macros shots require steady hands, but the output is commendable.

Diffused selfie flash has been given in Redmi Note 5, which is helpful in low light. The app also has a beauty mode, which automatically edits the shot. Selfies are a bit grainy, but worth using on social media. It is possible to record maximum 4K resolution videos with the rear camera, while the front camera with 1080 pixels resolution. The stabilization mode isn’t provided, which isn’t something to disappoint considering the price.
